SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team looked to gather another conference victory after defeating Sacred Heart on Thursday. In Bryant's first Northeast Conference match, the Bulldogs clipped the Knights 5-2. Dropping each matchup in doubles put FDU behind early.
Jacob Whalley (Wirral, England/Calday Grange Grammar School) earned the first Knights' win in singles to even the playing field and bringing his personal record to 8-6 and undefeated in conference play.
Kiran Mani (Brewster, N.Y./Laurel Springs) was the only other FDU representative to collect a singles win defeating Bryant's Artur Jakubowski, 6-2, 6-1. Mani is now 6-7 on the season.
Adam Chan (Hillingdon, England/ Langley Grammar School ) saw a competitive matchup with Bryant's Oliver Welsh. Chan picked up the first win, 6-3. Welsh battled back, 7-5 to even the series. Chan would eventually fall in the third go-round 7-6 (2).
Gonzalo Quintana (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Particular Pert) did not compete due to injury,.
The Knights will step away from conference play and visit Concordia on March 3. On the road, FDU will look to a 3:30pm game time.
