QUEENS, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson softball got a complete game from Madison Lerma (Escondido, Calif./Escondido) and RBI from five different players to beat Howard 6-1 and snap a three-game losing streak.

Lerma (1-3) scattered seven hits while allowing one run and striking out two for her first win since April 9 of 2014 against Saint Peter's. Lerma also went 1-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

After both sides went scoreless in the first, Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland) doubled through the right side to score Holly Mercier (Corona, Calif./Santiago), who reached on an error and then stole second, in the second inning. Cervantes leads the Knights with 10 RBI on the season.

Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), who reached on a dropped third strike, and Cervantes scored when Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) doubled to center field. Stephanie Collins (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) finished the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to drive in Slye to make it 4-0 Fairleigh Dickinson (3-11) after one and a half innings.

In the top of the third, the Knights added another run when Mercier singled home Lerma. Lerma led off the inning with a single and then stole second to get into scoring position.

Howard (3-16) broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tiyanna Stewart singled and then came around to score on an error when Milan Poindexter singled.

The Knights got their sixth run in the top of the seventh. Francine Villalobos (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) singled to center to start of the frame and advanced to second on a fielder's choice and third on a wild pitch. Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) knocked Villalobos in with a sacrifice fly to center.

Fairleigh Dickinson finishes up the St. John's Invitational tomorrow with games against Samford at 11 a.m. and Manhattan at 1 p.m.
