BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team dropped its first Northeast Conference road match of the season, 3-0, to St. Francis Brooklyn at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights (2-8-1, 0-1-1 NEC) were unable to breakthrough against the Terriers (6-4-2, 2-0-0 NEC), who won for the fifth time in their last seven outings.
Both teams battled the windy and blustery conditions but the Terriers' offense prevailed with three second-half goals en route to the victory. St. Francis BK has now outscored its opponents 5-0 over the team's first two NEC contests.
The Knights put two shots on frame in the first 10 minutes, including an attempt by
Jamie Leddy (Bateman’s Bay, Australia/Bateman’s Bay) at the 1:25 mark, which was saved by St. Francis goalkeeper Seth Erdman. Erdman only needed to make one save the rest of the way and finished with three stops in the win.
Over the first 45 minutes of scoreless action, the two teams struggled to generate quality scoring chances as the Knights fired four shots and limited the Terriers to just two.
The offenses remained quiet until the 77
th minute when the Terriers netted the game's first goal. Collyns Laokandi used his left foot to score from 10-feet out and give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
The Terriers' first goal ignited the offense as they were able to extend their lead just 59 seconds later thanks to Dominick Falanga's second goal of the season.
A penalty kick goal by Federico Curbello at the 79:19 mark resulted in the Terriers third and final score of the day.
In total, the Terriers outshot the Knights 13-6, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
Six different Knights attempted a shot in the loss, while redshirt freshman netminder
Sebastian Ferreira (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) made two saves. Across eight games this season, Ferreira has a 1.34 goals against average, a .718 save percentage and 28 total saves.
The Knights return home for their next two games against Bryant on Saturday, October 15 at 5 p.m. and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m.
