W. Tennis Falls to Rutgers in Spring Debut

MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Rutgers in the Knights' spring debut at the Atlantic Club on Wednesday afternoon.
 
FDU (2-1) fell behind early when the Scarlet Knights (2-1) captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Burgundy and Blue, however, picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as senior Anna Rapoport (Moscow, Russia/#1239 ) and sophomore Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) defeated Judeh Noor and Mariam Zein by an 8-5 margin.
 
Moving onto singles action, Rutgers was victorious at No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles to put the match out of reach. For the Knights, Guzairova added another win, taking down Noor, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 4 singles. Freshman Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) tacked on another point for FDU with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 come-from-behind victory at No. 3 singles. Guzairova and Maier both picked up their eighth singles wins of the 2012-13 season on the day.
 
Next up for FDU is a pair of matches in West Point, N.Y. The Knights will begin with a match against Army on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. before taking on UMass the following day at 10 a.m.
