W. Tennis Takes the Court for Day Two at Stony Brook Classic


Day Two Results

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team continued action at the Stony Brook Classic on Saturday highlighted by freshman Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) putting together a 2-0 record in Flight C singles play.

The Highland Park product defeated Amherst's Sarah Monteagudo in a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 match in the quarterfinals to begin the day. In the semifinals, she took down Army's Lorraine Saavedra in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to stamp her ticket to the finals.

Chis, who is the lone FDU player moving on to Sunday's action, will square off with Gabby Winter from Navy in the finals tomorrow.

In Flight A play, freshman Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) and senior Anna Rapoport (Moscow, Russia/#1239 ) dropped two-set decisions in quarterfinal matches. Maier was defeated by Nini Lagvilava of Stony Brook, 6-2, 6-4, and Rapoport was done in by Jamila Paul from Army, 7-5, 6-4.

Sophomore Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) fell in two sets to Stony Brook's Becky Shtilkind in Flight B.

In Flight C, senior Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) was downed by Navy's Winter, and sophomore Gabriela Sarrate (Union City, NJ/Union City) saw her tournament come to an end with an 8-6 loss at the hands of Bryant's Mariah Korne in Flight E.
