M. Tennis Completes Perfect Home Slate with 5-2 Win Over Bryant

Box Score

Victories in doubles play and four singles wins helped the Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team take down Northeast Conference opponent Bryant, 5-2, on Saturday at the FDU Tennis Center in Teaneck, NJ as the Knights secured a perfect home record in the regular season.

FDU (11-7, 3-0 NEC), which won its seventh match in a row on Saturday, picked up victories in all four of its home matches this season. In the process, the Knights hand Bryant (11-5, 3-1 NEC) its first NEC loss of the season and end the Bulldogs' nine-match winning streak.

“The men played very, very well,” Head Coach Ira Miller said. “Bryant is undefeated in the conference. We competed well in the doubles and carried that momentum into the singles.”

Playing in their final regular season home match together, seniors Dominic Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) and Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) handled business with an 8-4 win over Bryant's Peter Hart Callahan and Zachary Morris at No. 2 doubles.

The Knights other win in doubles came when juniors Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) and Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) sent Dana Parziale and Connor Crowley to an 8-0 loss at No. 3 as FDU earned the doubles point.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Arvis Berzins (Adazi, Latvia/Riga Language School) beat Morris, 6-1, 6-0, for his fourth singles win in a row, while junior Ibrahim Shams (Cairo, Egypt/Manor House) also won his fourth straight with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over the Bulldogs' Parziale at No. 2. For Berzins and Shams, the wins are their 14th of the season.

FDU's two other points came courtesy of junior Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) and his No. 3 singles win to go with fellow junior Skvarka's No. 5 singles win on the day.

The Knights will hit the road for another NEC match against Monmouth in West Lawn Branch, NJ on Wednesday, April 11, for a 3 p.m. match.
