The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at the hands of Princeton on Sunday at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, NJ.
It was the Knights' (2-4) third match in a row against a school from the Ivy League. Princeton (5-6) also took down Buffalo earlier in the day.
FDU was competitive in all three doubles matches, but could not pull out a victory. At No. 2 doubles, junior
Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) and senior
Dominic Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) played a close match, falling by an 8-6 margin, as did juniors
Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) and
Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) at third doubles.
Again the Knights kept the six singles matches close, but could not break through with a win. FDU's best match came at No. 6 singles where
Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) dropped his match to Princeton's Ben Quazzo, 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
“It was a hard fought, valiant effort by the guys,” Assistant Coach
Jonathan Buchman said.
Next weekend, the Knights will participate in the Yale Round Robin in New Haven, CT with competition scheduled for Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4, against Yale, Marist and Stony Brook.
