Box Score
After a slow start in doubles, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team could not get out of its early deficit, falling by a 6-1 score to Columbia on Friday afternoon at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center in New York , NY.
The highlight of the day for the Knights (2-3) came courtesy of junior
Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School), who picked up his first singles win of the spring campaign by a score of 7-6 (3), 6-3 at No. 6 singles over Columbia's Rajeev Deb-Sen. Hemy has played in other highly contested matches this spring, including taking Lehigh's Dan Goldblum to a decisive third set earlier this month.
The Lions (6-2) earned the doubles point by taking all three matches. The No. 2 doubles pairing of
Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) and
Dominic Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School), as well as
Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) and
Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) kept their matches close before falling by 8-5 scores.
Moving to singles play, the Knights fell at the top five spots with Gricheno having the tightest match of the defeats, a 7-5, 6-3 setback at No. 3 singles.
“The guys played hard,” Head Coach
Ira Miller said. “We're getting ready for Princeton.”
