FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team made the most of the final day at the USTA Invitational with two singles finals wins to go with a doubles finals victory on Monday.

Squaring off with Morgan State's Mi'kola Cooper, FDU freshman Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) played her way to a 6-1, 6-3 win to capture the Flight H Championship. During the weekend, Maier picked up wins over NJIT's Carolina Zanotta in the round of 16, Nancy Zonneveld of LIU Brooklyn in the quarterfinals and Morgan State's Arina Alileuva in the semifinals to reach Monday's final.

Fellow freshman Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) also came away a winner in the finals of Flight I thanks to her 6-3, 6-3 victory against Ksenia Mikhaylova of St. John's on Monday. For Chis, it is her second individual title after winning Flight C at the Stony Brook Classic in mid-September. Chis' road to the finals included wins over Morgan State's Chelsi Russell, Fairfield's Carolina Koladzyn and Maria Rodriguez of Seton Hall.

In the fourth flight of doubles, Chis and junior Manuela Leme (Varginha, Brazil/E.E. Antania Alves Cruz) proved to be too much for Seton Hall's Julia Keenan and Madison Shoemaker to handle. FDU's pairing scored an 8-6 victory on Monday to capture the doubles crown. The duo's weekend also included wins over teams from Army, Delaware and Cornell.

The Knights are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 16, for a 2 p.m. match against Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J.
