The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team will look to end its 16-game losing streak Thursday evening when they hit the road to take on Bryant in a Northeast Conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, RI.
The Knights (1-18, 0-8 NEC) fell at home this past Saturday to Saint Francis PA, 69-63, in Northeast Conference action. The Red Flash grabbed the advantage for good with a 14-12 lead at the 12:41 mark of the first half to force the Knights to play catch up the rest of the game. SFPA was able to take a 40-28 halftime lead thanks to 62.5 percent (15-of-24) shooting in the first half including 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from three-point range. FDU was able to cut the lead down to five on three different occasions in the second half but could not get any closer.
Junior
Lonnie Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) came off the bench to score 15 points and dish out a team-high four assists to lead the Knights. Senior
Briahn Smith (Detroit, MI/Madison) added 14 points including tying a career high with four three's, and sophomore
Mathias Seilund (Dragoer, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) came off the bench to score a season-high 12 points (all in the second half), grab five rebounds (tied career-high) and record a game-high three steals which was also a career high. FDU also knocked down a season-best nine three-pointers (9-of-22; 40.9 percent).
Scouting Bryant: The Bulldogs (2-18, 1-7 NEC) are currently riding a five-game losing streak after falling at home to Brown this past Monday, 67-60. They have now lost 17 of 18 and 18 of 20 contests this season. Bryant snapped its 12-game losing streak with a 59-56 home win over Saint Francis PA on January 7. The Bulldogs other victory came in their second game of the season against UC Davis (70-63 on November 12) at the Basketball Travelers Classic in San Diego, CA. Out of conference, Bryant and FDU have two common opponents. Both teams lost at Providence by identical 72-61 scores, and both teams lost at home to Lehigh.
Sophomore forward Alex Francis leads the team in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (7.5 rpg) and field goal percentage (49.4 percent, 129-of-261). Sophomore guard Corey Maynard is the team's second-leading scorer (12.9 ppg) and rebounder (5.0 rpg), while junior guard Frankie Dobbs adds 11.6 points per game and dishes out a team-best 4.8 assists per game.
All-Time Series: This will be only the sixth meeting all-time between the two schools dating back to the 2008-09 season. The Bulldogs won the first game in the series three years ago at their place, 56-43, before the Knights won three in a row with two wins at Stratis Arena. Bryant won the last meeting the two teams played last season, 74-71, at its place last January. FDU is 1-2 in games played at the Bulldogs' place.
