The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Boston University, 6-1, in Orlando, FL. The Knights on five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. After sophomores Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) and Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) won at No. 3 doubles and junior Dom Hemy and sophomore Guy Goren lost at No. 1 doubles, the point would be rewarded to the team who won at No. 2 doubles. Trailing 7-4, junior Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) and sophomore Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) rallied to force a tiebreaker and ended up winning, 9-8 (2), to earn the doubles point for FDU. With the victory, the Knights improve to 4-7 on the season.
"It was a great match for us," said Head Coach Ira Miller. "I thought we competed well. This was a team that had already beaten three NEC squads, so it was nice to get a victory for the conference."
The Knights will return to action on Thursday, March 17, when they take on Colgate to continue their spring break trip. First-serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
