The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (4-18, 2-9 NEC) looks to snap a six-game losing streak and a nine-game NEC losing skid as they hit the road for the second of three-straight NEC road games when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to take on the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Knott Arena.
FDU is coming off another tough loss Thursday night at Wagner, 61-57. The Knights were in control for most of the game and led almost the entire second half. After a basket gave the Knights a lead at 57-55 with 1:46 remaining, the squad failed to score a basket the rest of the game and committed three costly turnovers down the stretch. Senior Kamil Svrdlik (Prerov, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Zlin) led the Knights with 18 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while knocking down a career-best 10 free throws on 11 attempts. Senior Mike Scott (Philadelphia, PA/Texas Christian) added 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while senior Terence Grier (Cranford, NJ/St. Thomas More Prep) chipped in 12 points. Senior John Galvin (Weston, CT/Weston) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
The Mountaineers are 8-16 (6-5 NEC) on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak Thursday night as Julian Norfleet drilled a three-pointer from the right corner with 0.6 seconds left to lift Mount St. Mary's past Monmouth, 56-54. The Mount used a 7-0 run midway through the second half to take its biggest lead of the game, 50-42, with 10:32 left. From there, Monmouth held the Mount to just three points until Norfleet's game-winning shot. The Hawks used a 12-to-3 run to grab a 54-53 advantage on a basket with 17.0 seconds left. Lamar Trice finished with a game-high 15 points.
After playing Mount St. Mary's, the Knights will participate in NEC Rivalry Week when they play Garden State rival Monmouth over the next two games. The Knights will travel to West Long Branch, NJ on Wednesday, Feb. 9, for a 7:45 tip before returning home on Saturday to host the Hawks at Stratis Arena at 2:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on MSG.
The Series Versus Mount St. Mary's: The Knights are meeting the Mount for the 43rd time, holding a 24-18 lead in the series. The Mountaineers and Knights played once in the regular season last year in Hackensack, as the Knights dropped a 77-67 decision. FDU has lost two straight in the series and is 10-10 all-time in games played at Mount St. Mary's.
