The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team was defeated Friday afternoon at Concordia College, 8-1, in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers came into the match as the No. 10 ranked college in Division II. Because Concordia is a Division II school, the points are out of nine instead of seven, meaning each doubles match is worth one point. The Clippers took all six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. Sophomores Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) and Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) won the Knights' lone match of the day at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, over David Tisserand and Andreas Lindell. The Knights are now 1-4 in dual matches this year.
In No. 1 singles, sophomore Ibrahim Shams (Cairo, Egypt/Manor House) was defeated by Daniele Piludu, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Dom Hemy was defeated by Tamas Dobrotka in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Gricheno was defeated, 6-0, 6-1 by Tisserand. M. Hemy was defeated, 6-3, 6-2, by Lindell in No. 4 singles. In No. 5 singles, freshman Guillermo Paiz (Guatemala City, Guatemala/The American School of Guatemala) was defeated by Geza Bazula, 7-6 (2), 2-6, 10-3. Freshman Dom Devaux-Lovell was defeated in No. 6 singles by Felix Missal, 6-1, 6-2.
In No. 1 doubles, Shams and D. Hemy were defeated, 9-7, by Dobrotka and Bazula. Sophomore Guy Goren and Devaux-Lovell were defeated by Missal and Piludu in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
The Knights return to action on Sunday, Feb. 20, when they travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on Saint Peter's. First-serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
