Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Men's Basketball Greg Vetrone announced the addition of two players to the program as Nate Gibbs (Dallas, TX) and Mathias Seilund (Dragoer, Denmark) will join the Knights for the 2010-11 season.
Gibbs attended junior college in Saddleback, CA, helping lead his team to the State Championship in 2009-10. He scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds in the championship game for the Gauchos this past season after averaging 6.5 points per game, shooting 44 percent from the floor, and averaging 4.2 rebounds per game during the regular season. The 6-6, 230-pound forward graduated from DeSoto High School in Texas, where he was a McDonald's All-America nominee.
"Nate is a leader, a winner and he has enthusiasm and passion for the game," said Vetrone. "He has incredible fundamentals on both ends of the court and will bring a tremendous work ethic to the program. I don't think that there will be a player in the Northeast Conference that will out-work Nate day-in and day-out."
Seilund is a 6- 7, 205-pound forward. He played for the U-20 National Team in Denmark, where he had multiple 30-point games. "Mathias is an incredible perimeter player and shoots the ball with range," said Vetrone. "He gives us something that we didn't have last year- a player with size that can really knock down the three-pointer."
Gibbs and Seilund join Briahn Smith and Tyler Reynolds, who were signed in May.
Smith, a 6-4 guard from Detroit, MI, earned All-Region IX honors at Miles Community College after averaging 19.3 points per game his sophomore season. The Madison High School graduate was also selected to the All-Mon/Dak Conference First Team and was honored on the Mon/Dak All-Academic Team. He shot 48 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind the arc, while averaging 5.4 rebounds per game. As a freshman at MCC, he averaged 13 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Reynolds is a 6-4, 185-pound guard from Eugene, OR, who was a First Team All-Southwest Conference selection in 2009 at Sheldon High School. At Sheldon, Reynolds averaged 12.8 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game. Reynolds competed in the North/South All-Star game, averaging just over 20 ppg in the two games. He helped Westwind Prep Academy in Phoenix, AZ finished second at the National Prep School Championships in March.
The Knights finished 2009-2010 fifth in the league after going 10-8 in Northeast Conference play, earning a trip to the NEC Tournament, where they fell in the quarterfinals.
