Women's Bowling Goes 3-0 to Reach the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship Final

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team flew through the playoff bracket with a perfect 3-0 record on Friday at the 2010 NCAA Women's Bowling Tournament at Carolier Brunswick Zone in New Brunswick, NJ to reach the championship game, televised live on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The Knights went 3-4 in the qualifying matches on Thursday to earn the fifth-seed in the eight-team field. Fairleigh Dickinson started the bracket pitted against host New Jersey City University in the first round of the double-elimination bracket. Fairleigh Dickinson (86-38) fell to the Gothic Knights when the two teams met in the third match of the qualifying rounds on Thursday, 954-926. But the Knights were able to defeat NJCU in the first round of the playoffs on Friday, 4-2 (22-159, 153-159, 278-201, 167-178, 247-192) in a best-of-seven Baker game series.

FDU played No. 1 Nebraska in the second round after the Huskers defeated No. 8 Central Missouri, 4-1. Nebraska won all seven of its qualifying matches on Thursday, but the Knights had momentum and were able to post a 4-2 win to finish the first two rounds 2-0.  The Knights fell in the first game to Nebraska, 221-167, but bounced back to win the second game by just one pin, 161-160. With the shift in momentum in the Knights' favor, FDU defeated the Huskers 244-165 in the next game before falling 229-201. FDU took the last two games to win the match: 203-169 and 244-181.

NJCU defeated UMES to stay alive and force a rematch with FDU in the semifinals. The Knights defeated New Jersey City for the second time on the day, 4-2, to advance to the championship match. After being down 2-1, the Knights won the last three games for the victory. The Knights took the first game, 211-154, but then dropped the next two: 184-189 and 171-235. Fairleigh Dickinson then won three-straight (191-179, 223-173, 203-187) to advance to the championship match.

Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, NY/Stony Point) led the Knights in the traditional team games with a 1428 for seven games for a 204 average to place seventh overall. Erica Perez (Carteret, New Jersey/Carteret) tied for ninth with a 1414 in seven games (202 average).

Nichole Toto (Piscataway, New Jersey/Bishop George Ahr) averaged 207.2 for six games, with four of her six games over 200 (including high-games of 257 and 246).

The championship match against Nebraska, who defeated Arkansas State earlier in the day, will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 10 and reaired at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 11 on ESPN.

The Knights have made the NCAA tournament six of the seven years since it began in 2004. In each of the six years, Fairleigh Dickinson has reached the final four.
