Softball Announces Five Newcomers for 2011

Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Softball Coach Dale Martin announced the signing of five recruits who will join the Knights for the 2011 season: Meghan Russell (Bristow, OK), Maria Roney (Anacortes, WA), Paige Castro (Elk Grove, CA) Berkleigh Massey (Oceanside, CA) and Tori Sadlak (Lake Elsinore, CA).

Russell is a centerfielder with speed, who can also play either corner outfield position. She played for four years on the varsity softball team at Bristow High School in Bristow Oklahoma. In 2007- 2009, she was selected to the All-Conference Team, and in 2009 she was selected to the All-Region and All-State Teams. In her travel career, Russell played for the Tulsa Eagles Gold. Additionally, she lettered in track and in 2008 was a state medalist in the 4x100 relay. Russell is a member of the National Honor Society and will be majoring in English and Elementary Education.

Roney is a catcher who lettered for four years at Anacortes High School. She was selected to the All-League First Team and was an All-State Honorable Mention. In her travel career, Roney played for the Absolute Blast out of Washington. She is in the Honor Society and a class officer for her high school, and plans to major in the health field at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Castro is a middle infielder from Franklin High School, lettering all four years. She was selected to the Delta Valley All-League Team, batting .355. She played in various positions for the Mizuno All-American Gold summer team. She was an Honor Roll student all four years.

Massey comes to FDU from Rancho Buena Vista High School, where she was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. She can play either corner position and has been selected to the All-Palomar League as well as All-Avocado League. She played on the So Cal Breakers travel team.

Also a member of the So Cal Breakers, Sadlak comes to New Jersey from Pomona Catholic High School in California. A pitcher, Sadlak has collected many accolades, being selected as All- League, named to the All-CIF First Team as well as earning team MVP. Sadlak also ranks in the top 10% of her class. At FDU she plans to major in health sciences.
