Men's Tennis Loses to Nationally-Ranked Concordia College, 8-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team was defeated by nationally-ranked Concordia College Thursday afternoon, 8-1, in Bronxville, NY.  Because Concordia is a Division II school and hosted the match, each doubles victory was worth one point.  The loss is the eight straight for the Knights and drops their overall record to 4-10.

 

In number one singles, sophomore was Dom Hemy defeated by Alex Grubin, 6-3, 6-1.  Freshman Sven Sjoerds (Gendt, Netherlands/Over Betuwe College Bemmel) defeated Andrey Boldarev, who is currently ranked third nationally in Division II, in number two singles, 6-4, 6-7, 11-9.  Freshman Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) lost in number three singles to Raphael Namias, 6-4, 1-6, 10-3.  In number four singles, freshman Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) was defeated by Felix Missal, 6-2, 6-3.  Freshman Guy Goren Eliav was defeated by Tamas Dobrotka in number five singles, 6-2, 6-3.  Freshman Ted Segerfors (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gynasium) was taken down in number six singles by Andreas Lindell, 6-1, 6-0.

In number one doubles action, Sjoerds and sophomore Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) were defeated by Grubin and Boldarev, 8-5.  The tandem of Skvarka and Hemy lost, 8-6, in number two doubles, to Namias and Missal.  Sophomore Andrew Denny (Bingley, England/Bradford Grammar) and Guy Eliav lost in number three doubles to Dobrotka and Lindell, 8-2.

The Knights return to action Wednesday, March 31, versus Quinnipiac for their home and conference opener.  First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
