Men's Basketball Falls at Iona, 87-66

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team dropped its second-straight game on Saturday afternoon to Iona, 87-66, at the Hynes Center in New Rochelle, NY.  With the victory, the Gaels improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Knights fall to 3-5 overall.

Junior Nate Gibbs (Dallas, TX/DeSoto) led the Knights with a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds.  Senior Kamil Svrdlik (Prerov, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Zlin) added 12 points and led the squad with two blocks and tied a career best with three steals.  Senior Mike Scott (Philadelphia, PA/Texas Christian) and freshman Marco Porcher (Malaga, Spain/Oak Hill Academy (VA)) chipped in 10 and nine points, respectively.  Sophomore DeShawn Dockery (Chicago, IL/Worcester Academy) dished out a career-high five assists and scored seven points.

Iona jumped out to a 34-10 lead with 6:31 remaining in the first half and never looked back as they went into the break leading 49-27.

The Knights came out of halftime and scored the first seven points to cut the lead to 49-34 with 17:12 remaining and forced a Gaels' 30-second timeout.

Freshman Mathias Seilund (Dragoer, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium)'s three-pointer with 12:43 remaining cut the lead to 59-47.  However, that was the closest the Knights would get as Iona was able to weather the storm.  The Gaels outscored the Knights, 28-19, the rest of the way to cruise to the 87-66 victory.

After shooting almost 38 percent in the first half, the Knights went 12-for-21 from the field in the second half to finish the game shooting 46.0 percent (23-for-50).  The Gaels, who shot 62.5 percent over the first 20 minutes, finished the game shooting 55.0 percent (33-for-60) from the floor.

Iona edged FDU on the glass, 33-31, and forced the Knights into 23 turnovers.  The Gaels only turned the ball over 13 times.

Mike Glover led Iona with game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Kyle Smyth added 13 points, while Scott Machado and Chris Pelcher chipped in with 13 and 12 points.

The Knights return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 14, as they make the short trip down to Piscataway, NJ to take on in-state rival Rutgers.  Tip-off at The RAC is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
