Knights? Outdoor Track & Field Programs Both Place 10th at NEC Championships

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's and women's outdoor track & field programs wrapped-up action at the 2009 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Sunday, May 3.  Both squads finished 10th in the meet ? which was hosted by Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ ? as the women collected 32 points and the men, nine.

The women's 4x400-meter relay squad ? composed of senior Dara Jones, senior Jessica Sanders, freshman Jessica Greenaway, and junior Claudine Williams ? took third, logging a 3:54.21.  The 4x100m unit (Williams, freshman Altagracia Vasquez, freshman Nickelle Smith, and Greenaway ? crossed the line in 49.19 to finish fifth.

The men's 4x100m relay team, senior Thomas Mackey (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton), senior Reyon John (Buccoo, Trinidad & Tobago/Singnal Hill), freshman Eric Hall (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount St. Michael), and sophomore Miguel Zapata (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond), grabbed seventh.  John figured to be a top finisher in both the 100m and 200m.  However, he registered an eighth-place showing in the 100m after cramping up, and subsequently did not start in the 200m.

Freshman Senghor Kamugia took third in the triple jump (14.10m).  Sophomore Taryn O'Connor went for sixth place in the shot put, on the strength of an 11.74m heave.

Sanders finished the 400m hurdles in third, clocking in at 1:04.54.  Junior Hawa Massaquoi placed eighth in the save event after her 1:09.19.

In the 100m, Smith recorded a 12.62 in the 100m (seventh).  D. Jones and sophomore Megan Patterson both garnered fifth-place showings in the 400m and 800m, crossing the line in 58.13 and 2:19.86, respectively.

Monmouth won the men's and women's team titles.  The MU men scored a meet-record 232 points, breaking the old mark of 221, set by Fairleigh Dickinson in 1992.

At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, the Knights travel to the NYC Qualifying Meet at Randall's Island.
