Two members of the Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team were honored on the 2009 NCAA Tournament Team. Sara Litteral (Chesterfield, MI/L'anse Creuse North) and Erica Perez (Carteret, New Jersey/Carteret) earned spots on the team, announced by the NCAA on Sunday, April 12.
The NCAA Tournament was held at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton, MI, April 9-11. The Knights made it to the final four, but finished third after falling to Central Missouri in a best-of-seven Baker Game format, 4-3. Fairleigh Dickinson earned the fifth seed in the qualifying rounds on Thursday, April 9. The Knights defeated Vanderbilt in the first round, 4-2-1.
The Knights then rolled past eventual national champion Nebraska, the top seed, 4-1. But after earning a bye, FDU fell to Central Missouri twice in the double-elimination bracket (4-2, 4-3).
Sara Litteral (Chesterfield, MI/L'anse Creuse North), bowling in the fourth spot, led all bowlers with a 231.75 average in the qualifying tradtional team games, with a total pin fall of 927 and a high-game of 259. All four of her games were over the 200 mark, as she turned in a 249, 205 and 214. Anchor Erica Perez (Carteret, New Jersey/Carteret) was 14th overall with a 203 average, amassing a total of 812 pins with a high-game of 232.
