In the second round of the NCAA Tournament Bracket, the fifth-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team defeated top-ranked Nebraska, 4-1.
The Knights earned the fifth seed in qualifying rounds on Thursday and defeated Vanderbilt in the first match of the day, 4-2-1.
In the first game against Nebraska, the Knights came out on fire as Tracy Ganjoin (Brick, NJ/Brick), Brianna Balkin (/Nutley), Joely Carrillo (Clifton, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and Sara Litteral (Chesterfield, MI/L'anse Creuse North) each threw strikes. Anchor Erica Perez (Carteret, New Jersey/Carteret) struck out in the 10th, leading the Knights to a 226-212 win.
Litteral cleared the pins in the ninth frame of the second game to set Perez up for a triple in the 10th as FDU made it 2-0 with a 202-185 victory.
The Huskers bounced back, capping the third game with nine strikes for a 270-154 win.
But Fairleigh Dickinson closed out the match with a pair of wins as Ganjoin threw strikes in the leadoff spot for both games. Perez and Balkin put an ?X' in the box and Perez tripled to close out the fourth game, 203-157.
In the final game, the Knights pulled ahead for the win, 206-187.
FDU earns a bye in the next round, and will play the winner of Vanderbilt/Central Missouri at 5:00 p.m.
