The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team won its first match of the NCAA Tournament bracket, defeating Vanderbilt, 4-2-1 on Friday morning.
The Knights, who earned the fifth seed in qualifying matches on Thursday, battled to a 4-2-1 win in a best-of-seven match up against No. 4 Vanderbilt in the first game of the day.
FDU picked up a win in the first game, 213-172, and the two teams tied in the second game, 203-203. Fairleigh Dickinson grabbed the next game, 213-181. But Vanderbilt bounced back to tie it up, taking the next two (207-168, 197-182).
The Knights strung together four-straight strikes, and six out of seven, for a 212-194 win, before clinching the final game in a close one, 206-203.
The Knights will face the winner of No. 1 Nebraska, who defeated No. 8 Arkansas State, in the second round at 11:20 a.m.
