Doubles Play Hinders Men?s Tennis in 4-3 Loss

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's tennis team was narrowly beaten, 4-3, by the United States Military Academy, Sunday, March 1 in West Point, NY.  The two programs split six singles matches, but losing two-of-three doubles matches forced the Knights to 4-3 on the season.

Sophomore Matt Gordon (London, England/Mill Hill County) downed Phil Muhawi, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles flight.  Freshman Andrew Denny (Bingley, England/Bradford Grammar) disposed of Chris Albernoz in third singles, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.  Sophomore Alex Jorne (Rochester, NY/Brighton) was victorious in No. 5 singles versus John Lucero, 6-4, 6-2.

Jorne paired with freshman Markus Bolinder (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gymnasium) in third doubles for an 8-4 decision over Lucero and Bruno Lucivero.

“It was a good match, but Army's experience really showed,” Head Coach Ira Miller said.  “They got off to a good start in doubles, and winning that point proved the difference in the match.”
