Columbia Defeats Men?s Tennis Saturday, 7-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's tennis team suffered its first setback of the year, losing 7-0 at Columbia University, Saturday, Feb. 21.  The Knights (3-1) were edged by a pair of 8-6 counts in first and third doubles at the Dick Saviit Tennis Center in New York, NY.

 

The Ivy League Lions moved to 5-2 on the season.

 

Sophomore Matt Gordon (London, England/Mill Hill County) paired with freshman Andrew Denny (Bingley, England/Bradford Grammar) in No. 1 singles, but fell to Jon Wong and Haig Schneiderman.  The third doubles tandem of sophomore Alex Jorne (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and freshman Markus Bolinder (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gymnasium) were nipped by Ekin Sezgen and Dan Urban.

 

Gordon was out-lasted by Wong in No. 1 singles, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 7-5.  Bolinder was downed in the fifth singles flight, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, by Jon Chan.

 

Columbia is one of the top teams in the region,” Head Coach Ira Miller said.  “We were competitive in doubles, as well as a few of the singles matches.  This experience will only help us as we progress in our season.”

Fairleigh Dickinson heads to Queens, NY to face St. John's University, Sunday, Feb. 22.  The match if slated for 1:30 p.m.
