The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team fell, 3-1, to host Wagner College on Sunday afternoon at Wagner College Stadium in Staten Island, NY.
Wagner (2-13-2, 1-7-1 Northeast Conference) opened up the scoring in the sixth minute when Briana Vassallo netted her first goal of the game on a breakaway shot from 20 yards out.
Wagner held its' lead until the 40th minute, when Rashidah Sherman (Pelham Manor, NY/Pelham Memorial) fired one into the net to put the Knights (2-13-1, 0-7-1 NEC) to knot the game at 1-1. Sherman took a pass from Francesca Yaccarine (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and sent it into the back of the net from 12 yards out.
The goal was Sherman's third of the season; she is currently tied for the team lead with senior Jennifer Arceneaux (/Ralston Valley), each with eight points and three goals.
In the 70th minute of the second half, the Seahawks regained the lead on Julie Vigliotti's goal from in front of the net. In the 80th minute, Vassallo deposited an insurance goal to make the final 3-1.
The Knights out-shot the Seahawks with a 15-10 margin. In goal, for the Seahawks, Jen Emigholz finished the match with seven saves while Megan MacKellar (/Brookwood) had three saves in between the posts for the Knights.
Fairleigh Dickinson returns home to host Mount St. Mary's on Friday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m.
