The Fairleigh Dickinson University tennis team lost, 6-1, versus the University at Binghamton, Saturday, April 5 in Teaneck, NJ. FDU's lone point was a result of taking two-of-three doubles matches, as the Knights' (6-7) top two tandems notched victories.
Freshmen Josh Girling (Westminster, England/Peter Symonds) (Westminster, England) and Matt Gordon (London, England/Mill Hill County) (London, England) earned an 8-6 decision in No. 1 doubles, topping Faisal Mohamed and Sebastian Dietz. In second doubles, sophomore Philip Stephens (London, England/Monkton Combe) (London, England) and junior Esteban Blanco (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Asociacion Escuelas Lincoln) (Buenos Aires, Argentina) topped Arnav Jain and Gergoire Berner, 8-6.
Stephens was out-lasted in No. 1 singles by Faisal, 3-6, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5). In sixth singles, Blanco was edged, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) by Alex Dobrin.
“We had some good momentum, winning the doubles points,” Head Coach Ira Miller said. “However, we didn't come out as aggressive as we would have liked in singles action. Binghamton played like veteran team and it was a good match.”
Binghamton improved to 9-9 on the year.
