The Fairleigh Dickinson University fell to home-standing Cornell University, 5-2, Saturday, March 1 in Ithaca, NY. Sophomore Philip Stephens (London, England/Monkton Combe) and freshman Josh Girling (Westminster, England/Peter Symonds) both captured singles wins, as the Knights slid to 5-4.
The Big Red (5-4) were propelled by a pair of three-set singles victories and the doubles point.
Stephens won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, in No. 1 singles versus Kyle Doppelt, while Girling cruised to a 6-1, 6-1, decision against Jonathan Fife.
“At one point, we were up a set in second, third and fourth-singles,” Head Coach Ira Miller said. “We put a care into them, but they pulled it out. Everybody played well and we took another step in right direction versus a strong program.”
Fairleigh Dickinson travels to Lewisburg, PA to take on Bucknell University at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18.
