The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's tennis team fell, 7-0, at Columbia University, Friday, Feb. 15 in New York, NY. The Lions advanced to 2-1, while the Knights dipped to 5-2.
Freshman Matt Gordon (London, England/Mill Hill County) paired with senior Justin Seow (Johor Bahru, Malaysia/Brisbane - Australia) in No. 1 doubles, but was edged by Bogdan Borta and Justin Chow, 8-6. Freshman Josh Girling (Westminster, England/Peter Symonds) and sophomore Alexander Nace (San Jose, Costa Rica/Country Day School) dropped a second-doubles decision to Mark Clemente and John Wong, 8-5. The home-standing duo of Jared Drucker and Kevin Kung out-lasted sophomores Kyle Eddins (Tampa, FL/Saddlebrook Prep) and Priit Gross (Tartu, Estonia/Miina Harma), 9-7.
"We played very well in doubles, with three break points in the No. 3 doubles match," Head Coach Ira Miller said. "Their talent level prevailed in singles."
Gordon Lost in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, to Clemente, while Girling was topped in second-singles, 6-3, 6-2, by Borta.
Wong was victorious in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, over Gross. Eddins was taken down, 6-2, 6-3, by Chow in fourth-singles.
Seow fell in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2, versus Kung. In sixth-singles, Nace was defeated by Dan Urban, 6-0, 6-1.
FDU takes on St. John's University in Jamaica, NY, Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8:00 p.m.
