The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's tennis team dominated Hofstra University, 7-0, Sunday, Oct. 7 in Hempstead, NY. The Knights improved to 2-0 in dual match play, while the Pride slipped to 0-1.
Sophomore Philip Stephens (London, England/Monkton Combe) (London, England) defeated Luka Djordjevic in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, while classmate Matt Gordon (London, England/Mill Hill County) (London, England) downed Tytus Stempniewicz, 6-1, 6-1, in second-singles.
Freshman Josh Girling (Westminster, England/Peter Symonds) (Westminster, England) blanked Nenad Radakovic, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles, with sophomore Priit Gross (Tartu, Estonia/Miina Harma) (Tartu, Estonia) besting Matthew Wacks in fourth-singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore Kyle Eddins (Tampa, FL/Saddlebrook Prep) (Tampa, FL) beat Andy Cha in No. 5 singles, 7-6, 5-7, 10-1. Senior Justin Seow (Johor Bahru, Malaysia/Brisbane - Australia) (Johor Bahru, Malaysia) was up on Alex Hosner, 6-7, 10-4, in sixth-singles, before Hosner retired.
In doubles action, Stephens teamed with junior Esteban Blanco (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Asociacion Escuelas Lincoln) (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in No. 1 doubles for an 8-1 victory over Djordjevic and Wacks. The duo of Gross and Eddins edged Cha and Hosner, 9-8, in third-doubles.
“We played really well against good team,” Head Coach Ira Miller said. “I'm very happy with today's outcome and that everyone competed well.”
Fairleigh Dickinson travels to Bethlehem, PA to take part in the Lehigh University Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14.
