Intramural Indoor Soccer Rules

FDU INTRAMURAL INDOOR SOCCER RULES



1. FIELD OF PLAY:
- The field is the whole wood floor. The out-of-bounds lines are black basketball lines.
- No goal can be scored from behind the half court line.

 

2. NUMBER OF PLAYERS:
- Each team shall have a roster of 5 - 6 players
- Each game is 4-v-4 (3 players and a goalkeeper)
- Substitution is on the "fly" but only from the designated area.
- No team may play with less than three (3) players.

 

3. PLAYER CLOTHING

- Each player must wear sneakers, shorts, and t-shirt.
- Pinnies must be worn by each team.
- If your team all wears the same color t-shirt, you do not have to wear the pinnies.
- Shin guards are suggested by not mandatory.

 

4. DURATION OF GAME:
- Each game will be determined based on the tournament style and # of teams (6, 8 or 10 minutes of running time).

 

5. FOULS AND MISCONDUCTS:
- A player who intentionally commits any offenses is penalized by a direct free kick.
- Sliding is not permitted.  Sliding in an attempt to play the ball, whether touching an opponent or not, will be punished by a direct free kick.
- Hand balls in the box will be punished by a Penalty Kick (see below).
- Arguing with the referee is prohibited and will result in an immediate ejection.
- Fighting and Rough play are also forbidden.  Any altercation may result in suspension and will be forwarded to Student Life.
- There is No Off-sides.

 

6. FREE KICKS:
- All free kicks shall be Direct Kicks.  
- All opponents must be 5 feet away from the ball.
- All balls hit off the ceiling and basketball rims and backboards will result in a free kick from the center circle for the other team.
- If the attacking team takes more than 5 seconds to put the ball in play; they will turn over possession.

 

7. KICK-INS:
- Kick-ins are Indirect Free Kicks.
- A goal cannot be scored from a kick-in.
- A kick-in shall be taken when the whole ball crosses over the touchline.
- The ball must be stationary before it is put back into play.
- Kick-in must travel the distance of the balls circumference in any direction.
- Player taking the kick-in may not play the ball a second time until another player touches it.
- The opposing players must be 5 yards from the ball.
- A kick-in must be played within 5 seconds or possession will be turned over.

 

8. GOALKEEPERS AND GOAL CLEARANCES:
- There are NO Goalkeepers.  One person may be in the net but may not use his/her hands to defend the goal.
- The goal box will be marked off and any hand ball in that area will result in a Penalty Shot.  
- Goal Kicks must be taken from directly in front of the goal.
- Goal Kicks may not travel across the center line on the fly.  Must touch the floor or be touched by a player prior to crossing center line.

 

9. PENALTY SHOTS:
- Penalty shots are a free shot at goal from the "marked" penalty spot.  
- Penalty shots are awarded for handballs in the goal area, a foul in the goal area and any attempt stopping an obvious goal illegally.

 

10. YELLOW CARDS:
- A player accumulating three (3) yellow cards at any time in the tournament must serve a one game suspension.
- A player receiving two (2) yellow cards in the same game is an automatic red card and minimum 2-game suspension.

 

11. RED CARD:
- A player receiving a red card will be ejected from the game and will play a man down for the remainder of the game.
- A red card will be a minimum 2-game suspension.

 

12. POINT SYSTEM:
Win = 3 points, Loss = 0 points, Draw = 1 point
Tiebreakers - Most Points, Head-to-Head, Goal Differential, Penalty Kicks-5 per team, if necessary
