FITNESS CENTER POLICIES & PROCEDURES
  


Using the Fitness Center
The Fitness Center is open to all current Fairleigh Dickinson University Students, Faculty and Staff members. Each person must swipe their valid university I.D. card at the front desk when entering and leaving the facility.

Personal Trainers
External personal trainers are not allowed to be bought into the facility by Students, Faculty, Staff, or Alumni/Community Members.  This includes bringing them in as a guest.


Equipment
Basketballs, volleyballs, badminton racquets and shuttlecocks, soccer balls and jump-ropes are available at the front desk. The equipment must be signed out and that person is responsible for non-returned, lost, or stolen equipment.


Locker Rooms
Each men's and women's locker room contains 52 lockers and 4 personal showers. Each person must provide their own lock, towel, and showering supplies. All lockers are day-use only. Any lock left on overnight will be removed. We urge members not to leave valuables in the lockers. The Fitness Center is not responsible for stolen or damaged property.


Facility Video Surveillance
The facility is under 24 hour video surveillance. Any individual caught stealing or damaging Fitness Center property or the personal property of another individual will be subject to university and criminal prosecution to the fullest extent. For security purposes, the staff of the Fitness Center reserves the right to check the contents of bags and packages entering and leaving the premises.


University Policy on Electronic and Other Mobile Devices
*** The University recognizes that students possess electronic devices with video, camera or voice-recording capabilities.  In support of each individual's reasonable expectation of privacy, the copyright and intellectual property laws, the use of these cellular features by FDU students must be in conjunction with expressed consent.  Students are expressly forbidden to video, use camera or voice recordings without the express consent of the subject(s) being photographed or recorded.  Any student whose use oh his/her electronic devices violates another's reasonable expectation of privacy or produces any media as a result of the cellular phone capabilities without express consent may be found in violation of the policy. Violations of this policy may lead to the disciplinary action.


Lost and Found
Any articles that are found should be turned in at the front desk. Lost items can be retrieved during normal hours of operation.


Emergencies
In the event of a fire alarm sounding or another emergency, everyone should evacuate the building immediately. Follow the exit signs, located on each side of the building, and listen for instructions from the building staff.


Injuries
In the case of an injury, please notify the building staff. If the injury is serious, immediately have a staff member call Public Safety (201-692-2222) to get an ambulance to the facility. For minor injuries, the staff may provide basic first aid.


NO DUNKING or HANGING ON BASKETBALL RIM POLICY

  • "Dunking or hanging on the rim is strictly prohibited"
  • For a first offense, the Student's name will be taken he/she will have to leave the facility for the rest of the day.
  • A repeat offense will result in loss of fitness center privileges for the remainder of the semester.
  • If it is a guest of a student who is caught dunking or hanging on the rim, they will be banned from the facility for the remainder of the academic year."



Basketball Court Rules

  • NO FULL COURT GAMES
  • NO DUNKING PERMITTED at anytime in the facility.
  • FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Any altercation will be reported to the Dean of Students and Public Safety.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, including the use of inappropriate language, will not be tolerated.
  • Proper attire must be worn (i.e. sneakers, shorts, sweats, shirts).
  • Any clothes or bags must be stored in a locker, not in the gym area.
  • Respect the court schedule as posted for Intramurals, Volleyball, Badminton, half-court and full court play times.



Cardio and Weight Room Rules

  • Proper attire must be worn (i.e. sneakers, shorts, sweats, shirts).
  • Any clothes or bags must be stored in a locker. Lockers are for day use only!!
  • The fitness center is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
  • Return all dumbbells, mats, medicine balls and exercise balls to their designated area when you are finished with your exercises.
  • Please report any problems with the exercise equipment to the fitness center staff.
  • If you have any questions on how to use a machine, feel free to ask the fitness center staff.



General Rules

  • All members and guests must be at least 18 years of age.
  • No Pets, except seeing-eye dogs.
  • No food or beverages permitted in the gym area, only in the Commuter Lounge.
  • Alcohol, narcotics, steroids, or tobacco products may not be consumed, possessed, or displayed in or around the Fitness Center.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades are not allowed in the facility.
  • No signs, advertisements, or decorations may be placed in the Center without approval of the building staff.
  • PLEASE - NO PROFANITY.
  • Director's Clause: The Staff of the Fitness Center reserves the right to suspend or revoke the privilege to use the facility for any violation of these rules!!
