Regarded by many as the greatest middle infielder to ever don an FDU uniform, Joe Huffman was a member of the Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team from 1983-1986 appearing in 102 of 129 games. Over his four year career, Huffman posted a career .365 batting average (tied 3rd all-time) and to date ranks among the programs all-time career leaders in runs (126, a school record he held for nearly 10 years), walks (92 – 1st) and stolen bases (43 – tied 6th).
A steady and consistent player throughout his career, Huffman had a breakout senior season highlighted by going 54-of-119 at the plate for a then school single-season record (currently 2nd) .454 batting average, besting his .410 performance as a sophomore. As a senior he set the school single season record for run (61) and currently ranks among the top 10 in three other single season statistical categories: walks (35 – 3rd); stolen bases (21 – 10th); stolen base attempts (23 – Tied 8th). His .913 (21-23) stolen base percentage in his final campaign is one of the most efficient in school history and only compliments his career .914 (43-47) stolen base efficiency mark. For his career achievements which included: 68 runs batted in; 34 extra-base hits, including 15 homeruns, Huffman was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 1986 Major League Baseball June Draft.
During his tenure, Huffman helped the Knights to a 69-58-2 overall record and a 32-23-2 record in the Metro Conference.
