Dale Martin

Dale Martin enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Fairleigh Dickinson University softball program.  Martin was hired to lead the Knights in coach in August 2007.

After setting the program record for wins in a season with a record of 26-22 in 2011, Martin’s squad once again broke the program mark with a record of 30-20 in 2012.  Players on the 2012 squad broke almost every single-season record offensively and defensively and moved Martin’s win total at FDU to 92. Martin’s 92 victories as head coach make him the program’s all-time leader in wins.

The 2011 season saw the Knights post an overall record of 26-22 as the 26 wins set the previous record for most wins in the history of the program.

Under Martin, the Knights had 18 players named to the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010.  He has also had two players named NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete, four players named All-NEC, two NEC Pitchers of the Week, two NEC Players of the Week and one NEC Rookie of the Week.  Also, Martin’s players have a cumulative team GPA of 3.1 during his tenure as head coach.

Before coming to the Metropolitan campus, Martin had already accumulated 12 years of collegiate coaching experience, including the six prior seasons as the head coach for Division III Manhattanville College (2002-07).  At Manhattanville, Martin chalked-up four NCAA tournament appearances and four Skyline Conference Championships.  He coached seven All-Region student-athletes, 29 All-Conference players and three NCAA All-Tournament team selections.  Martin also assembled a talented coaching staff that was recognized as Coaching Staff of the Year three times, while his players boasted a 3.3 GPA during his tenure.  He led the Valiants to the postseason in every year of his tenure in Purchase, NY, notching three-consecutive undefeated seasons, while posting a 48-game winning streak.

Prior to Manhattanville, Martin spent one season as head coach at Division II Mercy College.  The veteran began his career with a five-year stint as the pitching and assistant coach at Division III Eastern Mennonite University.

Martin received his B.S. in Physical Education with minors in Exercise Science and Coaching & Philosophy from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA in May 1992.  He received his Master’s of Sports Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson in May 2010.  Since being named head coach in 2007, Martin has also been the Assistant Director of Academic and Student-Athlete Support Services.  He is also an Adjunct Professor in the FDU Sports Administration program.

Martin currently resides in Carmel, N.Y.
