Junior Danielle McEwan posted a higher individual frame average than any other Northeast Conference competitor at the 28-team Kutztown University Invitational this past weekend. Her contributions from the anchor spot spearheaded FDU to a 12-3 record and second-place finish at a tournament that featured 16 of the nation’s top-20 ranked programs according to the latest NTCA Coaches’ Poll. As a result, McEwan’s monopoly over the NEC Bowler of the Week award continues. No one other than the FDU anchor has won the honor since Sacred Heart’s Jackie Carbonetto achieved the feat on Nov. 16, 2011. On the way to her fourth straight weekly accolade, and second since the season’s second half began, McEwan filled 91.5 percent of frames bowled throughout the course of the three-day event. Her six-game traditional average (219.33), which helped FDU to a 5-1 record during that portion of the meet, stood second overall, behind only Kutztown’s Kayla Jones, on the individual leader board. McEwan actually posted a higher overall frame average that Jones by virtue of her performance during baker play. The six-time NEC Bowler of the Week averaged 22.12 pins per baker frame, helping the Knights to wins over No. 4 UMES and 2011 NCAA runner-up Vanderbilt. As usual, McEwan threw her share of strikes throughout the weekend. Her 113 strikes and .568 strike percentage were team highs.
