Senior Arvis Berzins claimed two titles over the weekend (Sept. 5-6) at the Stony Brook Invitational on Long Island. He won the "A" Flight in singles and teamed up with sophomore Gonzalo Quintana for the "A" Flight doubles title.
On Friday, Berzins defeated Danny Polk of Stevens Institute of Technology, 8-1, and Jose Morales of Stony Brook, 8-6, to reach Saturday's semifinals, where he handled Jonas Kuwert of Quinnipiac. Benzins then won his second career title when he beat Matthew Henrich of Stevens in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Berzins and Quintana handled Sebastian Barbero and Carlos Fernandez of Quinnipiac, 8-2, and Arnaud Holl and Andres Alban of NJIT, 8-6, on Friday. In Saturday's semifinals, the duo held on for an 8-6 victory over Ben Foran and Heinrich of Stevens, before taking down Kuwert and Julian Rozenstein of Quinnipiac in the championship match.
