WOMEN’S TENNIS BLOG FOR MAY 7, 2012
BY JUNIOR EGZONA MORINA
BACK TO WORK
After a weekend of studying for finals, both tennis teams are back on the court. Of course we did not completely stop playing over the weekend, but we did not have official practice. Today however we had a time scheduled from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The coaches wanted us to get some match rhythm back since we haven’t played any matches since the NEC tournament.
We started off with our regular warm-ups today together with the men’s team since we had practice at the same time, and we then were instructed to play a set against each other. After a set of singles we played a set of doubles. Coach informed us that the Virginia team is very offensive at the net, which means that we will probably have to “lob” a lot. In non-tennis terms, a lob is a shot where you hit the ball high over the opponent, obviously still dropping inside the court, without them being able to retrieve it. Besides that we should probably be quite offensive too when we have the chance, because the best defense is offense (in my opinion).
It’s only two days now until we are on our way to Virginia. I feel a little nervous, I must admit, but I think I am more excited than anything else. In my eyes, we will get a glimpse of what we could achieve and/or have if we work that much harder, and that can only be a good thing. No matter what happens this weekend, we will be better people when we come back.
