WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - In a rematch of the last two NEC Championship matches, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team's comeback came up just short versus the No. 1 seed Bryant Bulldogs as the No. 2 seed Knights fell 4-3.

The Knights came back to tie the match at 3-3, but Bryant won at No. 4 singles in a decisive third set to claim their second straight title.

Fairleigh Dickinson used wins from Jacob Whalley ( Wirral, England/Calday Grange Grammar School), Arvis Berzins (Adazi, Latvia/Riga Language School) and Diogo Garnel (Lisbon, Portugal/Carcavelos Tenis) in singles to tie the match at three. Whalley won in straight sets from No. 2 singles and Berzins did the same at No. 1 singles to make it 3-2.

Diogo Garnel (Lisbon, Portugal/Carcavelos Tenis) won a tiebreak in set one and then won set two 6-4 over Max Vogt to tie the match to at three and have the title come down to the final match.

The decisive match was the battle at No. 4 singles between Gonzalo Quintana (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Particular Pert) and Oliver Welsh. Quintana and Fairleigh Dickinson took the first set, 6-4. Welsh battled back and took the second set 6-3. Quintana then jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third set. Welsh then took five of the next six games to take a 5-4 lead. Quintana, down a break, battled back to tie the set at five all. At 5-5, Welsh won the next two games to give the Bulldogs the title.

Bryant picked up the doubles point by winning at No. 2 and 3 by the scores of 8-2 and 8-1.

The Knights finish the season with an 8-10 record.
