WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team had another strong showing in singles at the first day of the Army Invitational on Friday with five victories.

Senior Anna Rapoport (Moscow, Russia/#1239 ) was victorious in her first match in the top flight, beating UConn's Jenn Learmonth, 6-3, 6-1. Fellow senior Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) won by an identical 6-3, 6-1 margin in her second flight match versus Becky Shtilkind from Stony Brook.  

Sophomore Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) advanced to tomorrow's quarterfinal with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lehigh in the second flight.

In the third singles flight freshman Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) continued her stellar play, improving to 5-0 in her singles career with a 7-6(3), 6-0 victory against UConn's Marie Gariulo in the opening round.

Junior Manuela Leme (Varginha, Brazil/E.E. Antania Alves Cruz) needed just two sets to take down Army's Kari Pope, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16 in the fourth flight.

In the top doubles flight, Morina and freshman Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) teamed up for a 9-8(4) first-round win over Fordham's duo of Anika Novacek and Amy Simidian. The Morina/Maier tandem saw their run come to an end in the quarterfinals, however, dropping an 8-4 decision to Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz of UMass.
