Day One Results
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team lifted the lid on the 2012-13 campaign with the first day of the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational.
Following the first day of action, FDU has two singles players still playing to go along with one doubles team.
In his first match of the day, senior
Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Cornell's Kyle Berman. Hemy bounced back for a 1-6, 6-3, 1-0(3) victory over Jason Simon of Buffalo in the consolation round and will face Binghamton's Alexander Maisin in the consolation semifinal round tomorrow.
Senior
Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) suffered an opening round 6-2, 6-3 loss to Penn State's Chris Young. He will face Cornell's Quoc-Daniel Nguyen in the consolation round tomorrow.
In his first round matchup with UPenn's Nikola Kocovic, senior
Ibrahim Shams (Cairo, Egypt/Manor House) scored a 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 victory before falling to Matt Barry from Penn State, 6-3, 6-2.
Skvarka and
Julien Philippe (Paris, France/Saint Honoré d’Eylau) teamed up to take down Buffalo's duo of Jason Shkodnik and Simon, 8-4. FDU's pairing will square off with Boston College's Kyle Childree and Matt Wagner at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
