W. Tennis Finds Success at USTA Invitational Day Two

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- The second day of the USTA Invitational proved to be successful for the Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team on Sunday as two singles players advanced to the finals and one doubles team moved on to the semifinals.

In Flight H singles, freshman Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) was victorious over Morgan State's Ariana Alileuva, 7-6(2), 6-2 in the semifinals on Sunday. The freshman from Germany will face Alileuva's Morgan State teammate, Mi'kola Cooper, in tomorrow's final.

Another freshman, Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park), is moving on to the finals of her flight thanks to her straight set 6-0, 6-1 win over Maria Rodriguez of Seton Hall in Flight I. In the finals tomorrow, Chis is scheduled to take on Ksenia Mikhaylova from St. John's.

Sophomore Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) picked up a pair of consolation round wins in Flight E. Guzairova defeated Carolyn Pitman of Army, 7-6(3), 6-1 and Providence's Alana Prinos, 6-2, 6-2.

In flight four doubles, Chis and junior Manuela Leme (Varginha, Brazil/E.E. Antania Alves Cruz) defeated Danea Jonjic and Nataliya Naumova from the University of Delaware, 8-4, in the quarterfinals. In tomorrow's semifinals, the duo will take on Fordham's tandem of Angie Dabu and Julie Leong.

Action at the USTA Invitational will wrap up tomorrow.
