Track and Field Sets Sights on Metropolitan Championships

The Fairleigh Dickinson track and field teams will compete at the two-day Metropolitan Championships beginning on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY.

Thursday's competition will kick off at 10:30 a.m. and will include the weight throw. The action will then shift over to the Armory in New York, NY for the rest of the events on Friday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m.

The Knights are coming off last week's performance at the Terrapin Invitational in Landover, MD where the teams put together a number of strong performances, including a few personal records.

The men's team took 13th place overall on the day headlined by senior Kimutai Bett (Litein, Kenya/Chebisaas Boys)'s performances. In the 800m, the Litein, Kenya native finished 13th with FDU's top time of the season of 2:00.67. He also claimed a seventh-place finish in the mile in 4:24.67.

On the women's side, the Knights' 10th place finish was aided by Tayona Brown (Ewing, NJ/Ewing). The sophomore cleared 1.67m in the high jump, which was good for a third-place tie. She was FDU's top finisher in the long jump as well with a mark of 5.36m.

Other teams scheduled to compete on Thursday and Friday are Fordham, Columbia, St. John's and Manhattan, among others.

After the Metropolitan Championships, FDU will stay in the Metropolitan area to take part in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in the Bronx, NY on Feb. 3 and 4.
