When the Fairleigh Dickinson women's track and field team competed at the Terrapin Invitational in Landover, MD on Saturday, Jan. 21, it was the jumpers that stole the show as the Knights continued with their strong individual performances.

FDU placed 12th out of 19 teams with 10 points, while Maryland won the team event with 144 points.

Sophomore Tayona Brown (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) continued her upward climb as one of the Northeast Conference's best high jumpers. The Ewing, NJ native cleared the bar at 1.67m (5'5-3/4”) on Saturday, which tied for third in the competition and was the fifth best in the NEC this indoor season. Brown was also FDU's top long jumper on the day with a mark of 5.36m (17'7”).

Fellow classmate Shnell Wishart (Brooklyn, NY/Medgar Evers College Prep ) reached 11.53m (37'10”) in the triple jump to place fifth. For the transfer from Eastern Michigan University, it was her top performance for the Burgundy and Blue.

On the track, senior Altagracia Vasquez (Manhattan, NY/A. Philip Randolph) posted the Knights' fastest 60m time of the indoor season in 7.91 in the finals after running a time of 7.96 in the prelims to qualify for the finals.

Another senior, Christine Taylor (Bronx, NY/Washington Irving), was one of 14 student-athletes on the women's side to run a sub-60 second 400m. Taylor's time of 59.93 placed her 14th out of 50 runners.

In the 4x400m relays, Taylor joined forces with Lordess Shabazz (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville), Annemarie Pantke (Bremen, Germany/St. Johannis-Schule) and Ashley Battle (Union, NJ/Union) for a time of 4:04.82 to take 15th overall.

FDU's next competition will come next week on Thursday, Jan. 26, and Friday, Jan. 27, at the Metropolitan Championships in New York, NY.
