The Fairleigh Dickinson men's track and field team went toe-to-toe and stood its ground against the likes of Maryland, UMBC, Hampton, Temple and others at the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21, in Landover, MD.
Kimutai Bett (Litein, Kenya/Chebisaas Boys) continued his strong senior campaign by finished 13
th out of 52 competitors in the 800m. His time of 2:00.67 was the best on the team so far this indoor season. Bett placed even higher in the mile, taking seventh in the 42-competitor field with a 4:24.67 performance.
Junior
Raldaine McDonald (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) qualified for the finals of the 60m with a 7.15 finish in the prelims. In the finals, his time of 7.16 was good for 13th overall.
Junior
Waydell Harris (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris H.S) had a solid day with the Knights' top 200m time of 23.47, while fellow junior
Rory Farrell (Providence, RI/North Kingston) paced the Knights in the 400m by crossing the finish line in 52.66.
Freshman
Michael Ukaegbu (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) got two cracks at the 60m hurdles on the day. In the prelims, Ukaegbu turned in a time of 8.90. He was able to cut his time down to 8.72 in the finals to take 15
th place on the day.
After qualifying for the IC4A Championships last week, senior
Senghor Kamguia (Watertown, NY/Watertown) had another respectable triple jump finish, placing fourth out of 20 with a distance of 13.96m (45'9-3/4”).
Following up in the field events, senior
Zacharia Ahmed (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) had his best weight throw of the indoor season, reaching 14.66m (48'1-1/4”).
As a whole the Knights claimed 13
th place out of 17 teams with 17 points. The host University of Maryland won the team event with 101 points on the day.
Next time out, FDU will competed in the Metropolitan Championships Jan. 26 and 27 in New York, NY.
