Deb Solfaro Named Senior Associate Director of Athletics

Deb Solfaro has been appointed the new Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Fairleigh Dickinson University, announced by Director of Athletics David Langford on Thursday, Oct. 27.

“We are pleased that Deb is joining us,” Langford said.  “She brings a wealth of experience as an administrator and coach.  Her record as an advocate for student-athletes and coaches means our athletic community will be able to benefit from her experiences.”

Solfaro comes to FDU from the State University of New York at Ulster (SUNY-Ulster) where she directed its junior college athletic program that was committed to student development through athletic participation for a little over 3.5 years.  She worked in numerous areas at Ulster including compliance, eligibility, budgets, staffing, scheduling, facilities and academics as an advisor and as an adjunct professor.

Solfaro was also a successful head softball coach at Boston University (1995-2000).  She departed as the most successful coach in Terriers' history (186-96 record).  Solfaro's teams won two America East championships resulting in two NCAA tournament appearances.  She capped off her career at BU by being named the 2000 America East Coach of the Year.  Four of her former student-athletes have been inducted into the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Solfaro was in charge of Operations, was an NCAA Compliance Assistant and the assistant softball coach at the United States Military Academy for five seasons before going to BU.  While at Army, she was the primary assistant to the Senior Woman Administrator and NCAA Compliance officer, assisted with eligibility reports, worked with various departments to coordinate academic, housing, meal and military requirements, directed and coordinated several important events including the football banquet and several NCAA regional tournaments and directed all softball program recruiting activities.

Solfaro worked in various positions in non-profit management, secondary education and retail management between her stints at Ulster and BU.

“I am very excited and thrilled to become a member of the FDU team.” Solfaro said.  “I am looking forward to getting to work and assisting everyone on a daily basis.”

She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 1987 with a B.S. in Business Administration and Economics.
