Lauren Motzkin joins the Fairleigh Dickinson University softball coaching staff for the 2011-12 year.
Motzkin, a native of Mahwah, NJ, received her undergraduate degree from SUNY New Paltz and a Master's degree from St. John's University. At New Paltz, Motzkin was named captain of the team during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
As a catcher and outfielder, Motzkin was named a 2008 Third Team All-American and an All-Regional First Team selection. She currently holds the all-time record for hits (171), doubles (38) and steals (41) and the single-season record for hits (58) and doubles (15).
Upon graduation, Motzkin spent time working with several softball player development programs including Manhattan Little League and the Ulster Fillies Softball League.
Using her background in psychology, Motzkin devised a mental training program for collegiate athletes. The implementation of the program shows improvement in mental state, confidence and overall playing ability. She then used this program to assist the softball teams as an assistant coach at Adelphi and St. John's University.
“I am excited to have Lauren join our staff,” said Head Coach Dale Martin. “She brings quality experiences and an emphasis on the mental approach which will help the team as we move towards making a post-season push in the Northeast Conference.”
